About Kirkwood

Nationally ranked among junior colleges, the Kirkwood Eagles are led by record-breaking coaches and All-American athletes. Take a walk through Johnson Hall - our championship banners tell the story. Kirkwood at the top of the national polls? Believe it. Our six Division II teams have won dozens of NJCAA Region XI titles, launching them into the national spotlight at tournaments across the country. The words Kirkwood and national champions have appeared together in local headlines more often than any other community college in Iowa.

Look at any NCAA Division I sports roster and you'll soon find out that quite a few current Hawkeyes, Cyclones and Panthers were Eagles first! There are Kirkwood alumns playing in the pros, too.

Kirkwood's immaculate facilities, centralized location, and dedicated support staff are just a few reasons in making Kirkwood your future home is an easy decision- but playing collegiate sports at the NJCAA level has another purpose- to help top level student-athletes develop their social, academic and athletic skills for two years (as they get re-recruited by the best schools in the nation)! Kirkwood's athletic programs have set the tone to compete and win at the highest NJCAA level- and against the nations top teams, but why?

It's to prepare them for their next stop- a great four-year university or a chance to play at the profession level. With a student population of roughly 13,000 every year- KCC has the feel of a mid-major NCAA D1 university. This allows our student-athletes to prepare themselves socially, academically and athleticallly- so when they transfer to their dream school they have the necessary skills to succeed.

Every year top NCAA D1, D2, D3 and NAIA recruiters travel across the nation in order to watch our student-athletes play. These top programs have made these yearly recruiting trips because of Kirkwood's rich history in developing players to play and succeed at the highest level possible. Listed below shows where our former Eagles have transferred (NCAA D1 universities):

NOTE: The column '# OF EAGLES' lists the number of KCC athletes that have gone on to play at that school. The column 'LAST EAGLE' shows the last Kirkwood athlete and their sport to transfer to that school.
