-- The Kirkwood Volleyball team used a 13-kill, .571 hitting performance by sophomore outside hitter Chanda Goedken to down Southeastern, 3-0 (25-22, 25-7, 25-13), Saturday afternoon in the first match of the day for the Eagles. Then freshmen Morgan Guge and JoAnna Forkner stepped things up and led the team in a sweep over host team Mt Mercy JV 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-20).

In match one - first set, Kirkwood struggled in the early going but then were fueled by a kill and a block from Goedken and Kaylee Schulte to push the Eagle's to a narrow 25-22 win. Setter Ashley Goedken finished with 9 assists and 13 digs.

The Eagles used a great service run by freshmen setter; Lydia Hahn (West Branch) to start the second frame, Hahn notched an ace and stayed in control of the serve as Kirkwood scored 13 points. The offensive firepower of Kirkwood was balanced in set two, as OH Amelia Johnson, freshman OPP Ashley Berinobis (Waterloo East), and MB Jordynn Brackey all contributed 2 kills apiece. Hahn also distributed the assists and collected 5.

In the third set, Kirkwood kept things rolling as Goedken put away 4 balls, and Johnson and Schulte controlled the net as they combined for 3 blocks.

In match two, vs. host team Mt Mercy Kirkwood's Morgan Guge (JF Kennedy) and JoAnna Forkner (Marion) combined for 21 kills. Jordynn Brackey added 4 service ace points while libero Kira Yoder covered the back court and had a team high of 13 digs. 

Kirkwood returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 7 when it hosts Grandview JV in Johnson Hall. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
