Sixth-inning Rally Sparks Win over Simpson

An eight-run explosion in the sixth inning led the Kirkwood Eagles to a 13-2 win in seven innings over Simpson College at Kirkwood on Saturday.

 

The Kirkwood Eagles scored in the sixth on a passed ball, an RBI single by Lexi Ferrari, a wild pitch, a passed ball, an RBI single by Monika Bevans, a two-run home run by Angie McBeain, and an RBI single by Taylor Nearad.

Morgan Frost had three extra-base hits for the Eagles. She doubled in the first and fifth innings, tripled in the sixth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

Lexi Kinnaird got the win for the Eagles thanks to six strikeouts. Lexi Kinnaird allowed two earned runs, three hits and no walks over seven innings.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as the Kirkwood Community College Eagles Varsity scored three runs on a solo home run by DoniRae Mayhew, a sacrifice fly by Maddie Hansen, and an RBI single by McBeain.

Simpson College scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut its deficit to one. A two-run home run that set off a Simpson College rally. The Simpson College threat came to an end when Lexi Kinnaird finally got a Simpson hitter to fly out.

The Kirkwood Community College Eagles increased their lead with two runs in the fifth. Frost kicked things off with a double, plating Abby Klendworth.
