Metro Sports Report | VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Kirkwood baseball team continued to get excellent pitching on its spring trip to Florida Sunday and trimmed Westchester, 3-2, in nine innings.
The Eagles (8-3) scored in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off victory.
Joe Funkhouser pitched 7.1 innings of shutout relief in place of starter Peyton Long. Funkhouser allowed only four hits, with five strikeouts and no walks.
General McArthur and Lorenzo Elion had two hits for Kirkwood. Colin Kreiter and Elion had RBIs.
The Eagles swept a doubleheader from Hagerstown, 10-0 and 5-0, in their first games in Florida and have allowed only two runs in 23 innings on their trip to Vero Beach.
Austin Miller pitched five innings in the 10-0 victory, allowing only four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Nate Barnes and Bo Greenlee both tossed one inning of relief.
Kreiter went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the 10-0 triumph. Korry Howell had two hits and scored three runs. Tyler Bordner and Spencer Wiskus had two RBIs.
Porter Hummel pitched 4.2 innings for Kirkwood in the 5-0 verdict over Hagerstown, with relief from Joey Verstegen, Trey Cowley and Brody Alberts. They combined on a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
McArthur drove in three runs in the 5-0 win. Howell and Cal Clark had two hits. Ellison Hanna hit a solo home run.
