King signs with East Central University
Men's Basketball - Thu, Jun. 22, 2017

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Kirkwood men's basketball player Da'Rion King has recently ended his recruitment by signing on to continue his athletic and academic career at East Central University.

King will be leaving Kirkwood after helping guide the Eagles to the 2015-16 national championship in his freshman season.

Per East Central Athletics:

King spent the last two seasons at Kirkwood Community College where he helped the Eagles to the 2015-16 NJCAA National Championship.  He averaged 11 points and six rebounds per game his sophomore season, while earning two NJCAA All-Region Second Team honors.  As a prep he was a four-year starter for Racine Case High School.  He claimed four all-conference honors and one all-state honor, while scoring over 1,000 points and helping the Eagles to three conference titles.

"Da'Rion is a proven winner and talented athlete," Havens commented.  "He will provide much needed physicality in the post for us.  Da'Rion addresses an obvious roster need at the forward position and we are confident that he is capable of stepping in and contributing right away on both ends of the floor.  He's got great feet and hands and touch around the rim, and he will be called upon to provide a paint presence and scoring punch."

As noted, King was a two-time Second Team All-Region selection for the Eagles. In his 59 career games, King posted per game averages of nearly 10 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 58% from the field.

King also performed in the classroom, earning his place on the Academic All-Region Second Team this year.

The East Central Tigers are an NCAA Division II school and compete in the Great American Conference (GAC). Their men's basketball program is led by head coach Ja Havens. East Central University is located in Ada, Oklahoma.
