EAGLES UP FOR THE CHALLENGE: Golfers Tie for First at Buena Vista InvitationalEAGLES UP FOR THE CHALLENGE: Golfers Tie for First at Buena Vista Invitational
Despite tricky northwest Iowa winds and tough four-year school competition, our Eagles Golf team tied for first place at the Buena Vista University Invitational over the weekend. Friday and Saturday's play came down to a technicality that kept our Kirkwood players from claiming a win, according to Coach Darin Pint.
"We finished tied for first but lost the tiebreaker due to the fifth man's (non-counting) score the second day. (Kirkwood's Dillon Cooney with an 82 vs. Central's Brent Messmore at 78). That was a tough way to lose, but the guys played well all weekend. The old adage, ‘every stroke counts,' does mean something. It was a good field of teams so a positive finish," Darin told us.
Central of Pella and Kirkwood ended two days of play tied for first at 611, 35 shots over par. The big team roster included a bevy of notable four-year programs: uther, Wartburg, Morningside, Coe, Cornell, Loras and Grinnell from Iowa, plus Nebraska Weslyean, University of Sioux Falls and several others--a 22-team total.
