

Yegge enters his 5th season as the Head Coach for the Kirkwood Eagles. This past season the Eagles made their first trip to the National tournament under Yegge and the 10th in school history. The team finished 7th in the 16 team tournament, and finished 4th in the final NJCAA polls. The 2011 squad also won more than 50 games for just the second time in school history. The graduating class of 2011 had an impressive overall record of 109-17, which was the best in NJCAA D2. Also, the past season match the year before by having 5 players named to either the NJCAA of NFCA All American squads. Amanda Lambrecht, Jami Miller, Jena Malmen, Mel Walls, and Shelby Dougherty were those that were honored. Jena Malmen, was name The Diamond Sports National Catcher of the year after leading the nation in home runs with 28. With Malmen's help, the squad hit a very impressive 95 Home runs. Although several records were broken the previous season this year's squad shattered the home run and runs scored record set in 2010. The 2011 team's accomplishments helped the Kirkwood Softball coaching staff receive the NFCA Midwest Coaching Staff of the Year Award.
The 2010 season Kirkwood's softball team posted the best season in school history, finishing 55-6 and #2 in the final NJCAA D2 National Poll. The 2010 season was one for the record books… that year's team broke every team record and offensive record previously held. The season Was capped off with 5 members of the squad being named to All American teams. Molly Link, Jami Miller, Amanda Lambrecht, Carlie Schnoebelen, and Kylee Knop were honored by either the NCJAA or the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for their accomplishments on the field. During the Season Yegge earned his 200th victory with a win over Kishwaukee College.
In his second season at the helm the Eagles saw a tremendous turnaround from the previous year. In Yegge's first year the team won 26 games and then improved to winning 41 games his second season. In the 2009 season Kirkwood had 3 members of the team named All American. Carlie Schnoebelen was named 1st Team All American by the NFCA as an outfielder. Kylee Knop a freshman pitcher from Oxford Ga. was named 2nd team NJCAA and NFCA, and rounding out the Eagle's All American is Chelsea Parrish, she was named to the NFCA 2nd team as a DH. Along with these three individuals Heather VanHyning was name 1st team Mid West All Region by the NFCA. With these honors Kirkwood also had 10 players from the team named to the ICCAC All Region squad.
In Yegge's first season with the Eagles, he guided 6 players to the All-Region team, landing 2 on the first team. Yegge also led the Eagles to a Top Ten All-Academic Team presented by the Nation Fastpitch Coaches Association. Amongst the team, five individuals received NFCA Academic All-American honors. Also During the season Yegge hit a coaching milestone picking up his 100th career win against NIACC.
Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Yegge spent five seasons as the top assistant at Division One Indiana State University, where he was in charge of working with the hitters. In his time there, he mentored ISU's first player to be named to all tournament team. He also mentored ISU's first ever 1st NFCA 1st Team All region Player. In his time he coached an offense that leaped in the all-time record books for home runs, doubles, base on balls, and at bats.
Prior to Indiana State, Yegge was the head coach at North Iowa Area Community College from 1998-2002 after serving as the assistant coach for two seasons. While at NIACC, he led the team to its first 30-win season in eight years and was instrumental in helping seven players advance on to four-year institutions.
Additionally, Yegge coached 15 all-region selections during his time in Mason City. Yegge graduated in 2002 from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The State Center, Iowa native attended NIACC and Buena Vista University, and is currently working on his Master in Physical Education from Indiana State University. He continued his athletic career at NIACC where he was a member of the football team.
Yegge is an active member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, sitting on the Hall of Fame, All-American Selection committee, and the Recruiting committee. Joe, his wife Amy, and son Wyatt reside in Cedar Rapids.
