2011 Volleyball Coaches
Jill Williams - Head Coach - 7th Season
Coach Williams will begin her 7th year at Kirkwood in the fall of 2011. Her teams' overall record is 133-90, with a conference record of 53-12. Her teams have earned regional championship appearances and were regional runners up for five years. The 2009 season was a breakthrough season with impressive wins over ranked teams both in and outside of the conference. Freshman, Chanda Goedken was named to the NJCAA Division II All-American First Team. She has also had players recognized on the distinguished academic all-American team, the academic all-American team, 1st team all-regional, 2nd team all-regional, and regional tournament MVPs.
Prior to her arrival at Kirkwood, Williams served six seasons as assistant volleyball coach at Upper Iowa University, two seasons as assistant women's basketball coach at Quincy University, and thee years as head volleyball, girls' basketball, and track coach at LaHarpe School District. Coach Williams earned her BS in Physical Education and Recreation Administration from Upper Iowa University in Fayette.
Coach Williams is also the Fitness/Wellness coordinator for Kirkwood.
Ashley Goedken - Assistant Coach - 1st Season
Mike Embretson - Assistant Coach - 6th Season
Coach Mike Embretson is entering his sixth year as an assistant coach for the Kirkwood Eagles. He graduated from UNI in 1995 with a BA in Physical Education/Coaching. His past experience includes three years as volleyball coach at Marshalltown and nine years as head coach at Benton Community Schools. Embretson has been the Legends Volleyball Club organizer for nine years and continues to play USVA. He has played at levels from B to A, both in co-ed and men's.
Coach Embretson teaches Physical Education at Benton Community Schools. He and his wife Becki have three children, Grant 8, Grace 6, and one year old Anna.
Morgan Guge - Student Assistant - 1st Season
Morgan joins the coaching staff as a Student Assistant after playing her freshman season with the Eagles. Morgan is a graduate of Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School where she was a three-year volleyball letter winner and earned Second Team All-Conference and First Team All-Metro honors. Last season, Morgan was named to the NJCAA Regional All-Tournament Team.
