Doug Wagemester begins his 14th year as the head coach of the Kirkwood Community College Men's Basketball Program. During his tenure, Wagemester's Eagles have a combined overall record of 363-89 and a conference record of 156-21. Their accomplishments include: 9 National tournament appearances including 3 National Runner-Up titles, 9 Region XI Championships, 4 Regional XI Runner-Up finishes and 11 ICCAC Championships. During Wagemester's tenure, the Eagles have had 9 All-Americans and 25 First Team All-Region XI performers.
Doug came to Kirkwood from Grand View College in Des Moines, where he served as Head Men's Basketball coach for one season. In his first season as a head coach, his team finished the year with a 25-9 mark and set a school record for wins in a season. He has previously served as an assistant coach at Coffeyville Community College (KS), University of Redlands (CA) and Colorado College (CO).
Doug played his collegiate basketball at Loras College in Dubuque from 1986-1990. He played for Mike Jaskulski, current assistant at University of Alabama Birmingham and Brad Soderberg, former head coach at St. Louis University and current Head Coach at Lindenwood University. Doug was a three-year starter and served as a captain his senior season. He graduated from Loras in 1990 with a BA in Physical Education and received his MA in Education from the University of Redlands in 1994.
Doug and his wife, the former Kim Kelly, are both natives of Clinton, IA. They currently reside in Cedar Rapids with their three children, daughter, Jenna (11), and sons Hank (10) and Jack (7).
