CEDAR RAPIDS, IA-- The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Sophomore Baseball Showcase will be held at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The showcase will host 12 junior college baseball programs playing at two different sites. Each team will play one game, showcasing their talents in front of numerous MLB scouts and 4-Year Universities on Thursday, September 25th. Three games will be played at Kirkwood's baseball field, starting at 10:00am, and three games will be held at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, starting at 11:30am.

The programs that will be represented at the showcase are: Kirkwood Community College, Ellsworth Community College, Des Moines Area Community College, Southwestern Community College, Southeastern Community College, Marshalltown Community College, North Iowa Area Community College, Muscatine Community College, Iowa Central Community College, Indian Hills Community College, Carl Sandburg College, and Lake Land College.

Cedar Rapids, IA- The Kirkwood baseball program will be hosting an alumni game on Saturday, October 4th with a first pitch set for 1:00pm at the Kirkwood baseball field in Cedar Rapids. The alumni baseball game will coincide with Kirkwood Community College's 2014 Family Day activities. All former Eagle alumni will battle it out with the current Kirkwood Eagle baseball team in a 9-inning game. To RSVP for the alumni game, please reach assistant coach Gordy Nordgren (319-329-0717).

METROSPORTSREPORT- CEDAR RAPIDS, IA-- Eric Willis of Waverly-Shell Rock is the latest Iowa prep star to join the Kirkwood Community College baseball team. Willis, a middle infielder, was named the Player of the Year on the IHSBCA All-State Super Team this season after hitting .457 with five home runs and 45 RBIs as a senior. He also had 13 doubles and four triples.

"We are extremely excited to have a young man of high character like Eric joining our program," said Kirkwood Coach Todd Rima. "We are very proud that the IHSBCA Player of the Year has chosen Kirkwood to continue his education. We look forward to helping Eric develop into an outstanding college baseball player."
