METROSPORTSREPORT.COM- CEDAR RAPIDS, IA--Maddie Hansen, an all-state catcher at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, has accepted an offer to play college softball at Kirkwood. Hansen has been playing for the J-Hawks since she was a graduated eighth grader. She has a career batting average of .444 with 16 home runs and 163 RBIs in four years.
Hansen batted .500 with seven homers and 69 RBIs as a sophomore when Jefferson finished 33-12 and placed fifth at the Class 5A state tournament. She led Class 5A in RBIs that season and was second in the state. Hansen hit .441 with seven homers and 46 RBIs this past season when Jefferson went 35-8 and finished seventh at the state tournament.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA-- The Kirkwood Softball program will host its annual winter softball camp. The camp will be held on December 28th, 2014 and consists of six sessions. The sessions are as followed- Session I: Hitting/Offense, Session II: Defense, Session III: Pitching, Session IV: Pitching, Session V: Catching, Session VI: Catching. The camp will run from 9:00am (Session I) to 5:00pm (Session VI). All campers will recieve a free Kirkwood Softball T-Shirt upon arrival.
The camp will offer indepth instruction from several coaches from around the country including Kirkwood Softball Head Coach Joe Yegge, Kylee Knop (Kirkwood), Jenny Nelson (Kirkwood), Randy Schneider (Wisconsin Associate Head Coach), Matt Egger (University of Northern Iowa Assistant Coach), Julie Gerdes (University of Northern Iowa Assistant Coach), Bre Milnes (Metropolitan State Assistant Coach), Sam Sheeley (Wichita State Assistant Coach), Mike Bosch (Syracuse Assistant Coach) and some of the programs current and former All-Americans.
Eagles Head Coach Joe Yegge named to coaching staff
Two Kirkwood Eagle softball stars have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Softball All Star Team. Sophomores Shyanne Saladino and Sam Belz will compete against the top competition in the world at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada on July 15-21.
