Eagles enter National Championships as No. 1 seed

Cedar Rapids, IA. – The Kirkwood Community College men's basketball team (27-4) will enter the NJCAA Division ll Tournament as the No. 1 seed as the brackets were released on Tuesday.

Johnson Co. Community College (28-4) received the No 2 seed. Pima Community College (26-6) earned the No. 3 seed, followed by No. 4 Erie Community College (25-5), and No. 5 Milwaukee Area Community and Technical College (28-5). 

The Eagles have appeared in five championship games at the Dll national tournaments. They cut down the nets in 1998 and then again under Coach Petersen in 2016, and were runners up in back to back seasons in 2005 and 2006 and then again in 2009.

Kirkwood is coached by Bryan Petersen, who is in his 6th season with an overall record of 153-38.  

Kirkwood will open the tournament against No. 16 seed North Central Missouri College (18-12) of Trenton, MO on Tuesday, March 19 at 1 p.m in Danville, IL. The NCMC Pirates are coached by 3rd-year head coach Jeremy Esry, with an overall record of 53-33. This is the first year for NCMC to qualify for the NJCAA DII tournament.
