Ryan Kirsch enters his third season as an assistant coach with the Kirkwood Community College men’s basketball program in 2020-21.

This past season Kirsch helped the Eagles to a 24-6 record and an ICCAC Conference Championship, with four Eagles being named to the all-region team.

In 2018-19 Kirsch helped the Eagles win the 2019 NJCAA DII National Championship. The Eagles went 31-4 in his first season on the bench with five all-region performers, including the ICCAC and NJCAA Player of the Year, Douglas Wilson.

In 2019 Coach Kirsch was named to the Under Armor NABC 30-Under-30 team, representing 30 of the most outstanding men’s college basketball coaches under the age of 30.

Prior to Kirkwood, Kirsch served as a graduate assistant coach at both South Dakota State University and Augustana University. While at SDSU the Jackrabbits finished the season with a record of 28-7, winning the Summit League Conference and Tournament Championships, and qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. SDSU had a record-setting year having set the school records for wins (28), team points (2,958), 3-pointers made (374), and defensive rebounds (1,054). Kirsch worked closely with several players including Associated Press All-American Mike Daum, 2nd Team All-Summit League and Freshman of the Year David Jenkins Jr., and All-Summit League Honorable Mention forward Reed Tellinghuisen.

At Augustana, Kirsch oversaw team academic progress, team equipment needs, and the program's junior varsity team. Additionally, he assisted in player development, recruiting, and video needs for a squad that went 24-9 en route to an NCAA Central Region semifinal appearance with an All-American and two All-League selections.

Kirsch got his start at Iowa State where he was a two-year student manager (2014-16), serving under Fred Hoiberg and Steve Prohm. Kirsch worked with seven players that had, or still have, contracts with an NBA franchise.

A Corydon, Iowa native, Kirsch graduated with a degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Iowa State University. He is currently working on finishing his Master’s degree in Sports Administration and Leadership.

In lieu of his basketball duties, Kirsch works as an athletic coordinator within the athletic department.  He manages all social and digital media for Kirkwood Athletics, as well as manages a part-time facility supervision team. He and his wife Branygon reside in Ely, Iowa.
