Kirkwood Men's Basketball All-Region Recognition
Cedar Rapids, IA- Three standout players from the Kirkwood Eagles Men's Basketball Team soared to All-Region honor this year. Freshman sensation Traijan Sain, sophomore stalwart Ayouba Berthe, and redshirt freshman Zach Erwin have each been recognized for their exceptional contributions, earning prestigious All-Region honors and cementing their status as integral components of the Eagles' success.
Traijan Sain, the dynamic freshman guard, saved his most electrifying performance for the season finale against Iowa Lakes, where he erupted for a season-high 27 points, showcasing his scoring prowess when it mattered most. Throughout the season, Sain displayed remarkable consistency, averaging 11.6 points per game while shooting an impressive 44.8% from the field. However, his impact extended beyond scoring, as he also demonstrated his versatility by contributing 5.8 rebounds per game, 67 assists, and 33 steals. Sain's well-rounded game and clutch performances earned him a well-deserved spot on the First Team All-Region roster.
Ayouba Berthe, the seasoned sophomore guard, established himself as a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the floor. Averaging 12.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, Berthe showcased his scoring prowess and dominance in the paint, shooting an efficient 43.5% from the field. His defensive acumen was equally impressive, tallying 33 steals and 15 blocks on the season, while his tenacity on the boards was highlighted by a season-high 12-rebound performance against Northeast. Berthe's all-around excellence earned him a well-deserved spot alongside Sain on the First Team All-Region roster.
Completing the trio of honorees is Zach Erwin, the redshirt freshman forward whose impact in the paint was instrumental to the Eagles' success. Averaging 8.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, Erwin shot an impressive 47.8% from the field. His defensive presence was equally noteworthy, contributing 21 steals and 12 blocks on the year. Erwin's ability to control the paint and provide valuable contributions on both ends of the floor earned him a spot on the Second Team All-Region roster, a testament to his emergence as a key player for the Eagles.
