NO.9 KCC SOFTBALL TEAM HAS BIG WEEKEND

The ninth-ranked Kirkwood softball team spent the entire weekend on the road and came home Sunday night with six straight victories.

The successful trip began Friday with the Eagles sweeping a doubleheader at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, 6-1 and 14-0.
 
Kirkwood ventured into Nebraska and swept ICCAC doubleheaders from Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Neb., prevailing 20-4 and 4-1 on Saturday and winning 4-1 and 10-1 on Sunday.
 
Peggy Klingler led the hitting assault with five home runs on the trip, giving her nine homers and 29 RBIs with a .400 batting average.
 
Klingler hit a homer, scored twice and drove in two runs in the 6-4 victory over Iowa Western on Friday. Austyn Crees had three RBIs. Kori Wedeking pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.
 
Klingler, Chelsea Buck, Alecea Mendoza and Emilee Linder belted home runs in the 14-0 triumph over Iowa Western. Buck was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Linder was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Mendoza was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Grace Lubben and Brooke Kilburg had two RBIs. Annie Gahan was 2-for-3 and scored twice. Payton Akers pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
 
Klingler belted another homer in the 20-4 romp over Northeast on Saturday. She was 2-for-2, scored three times and drove in three runs. Mendoza was 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs and three RBIs. Lubben was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Kilburg went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Kennedy Hill drove in two runs. Gahan scored three runs. Kara Maiers got the victory.
 
Klingler swatted two more homers in the 14-1 victory over Northeast on Saturday. She was 2-for-2 with three runs and six RBIs. Crees hit a home run and drove in four runs. Akers struck out 12 batters.
 
Wedeking pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts in the 4-1 victory over Northeast on Sunday. Lubben was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
 
Akers tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the 10-1 victory over Northeast in Game 2 on Sunday. Gahan hit a home run and drove in three runs. Mendoza was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Linder drove in two runs. Lubben was 2-for-4 with two runs.
 
Akers has a 6-5 record and 2.22 ERA with 105 strikeouts in 60 innings. Wedeking is 6-2 with a 2.96 ERA. Maiers is 5-2 with a 2.80 ERA.
 
Kirkwood raised its records to 17-9 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
