#3 Kirkwood Goes 4-0 at Heartland Invitational

Normal, IL- The 3rd ranked Kirkwood Volleyball Team traveled to Heartland Community College this past weekend for a four match stretch that included two ranked teams, #18 Moraine Valley and #20 Rock Valley College. 

Kirkwood kicked off its weekend with two sweeps over Spoon River and Lincoln Land. Freshman Emily Naughton hit .750 with 9 kills on 12 swings in the Spoon River match and sophomore middle Ava Harris-Shepard hit .625 with 5 kills on 8 attempts against Lincoln Land. 

Kirkwood would then keep the momentum going and sweep #18 Moraine Valley, -20, -14, and -17. Three Eagles would have double digit digs in that match; Kaci Johnson would have 24, Lily VanSeveren had 16, and Natalee Hartman had 11. Marissa Cahoy would have a team high 13 kills on 31 swings, hitting .290. 

In the final match of the weekend, Kirkwood would get pushed to 5 sets but would prevail against #20 Rock Valley. Ava Harris-Shepard would continue her consistency and hit .579 with 12 kills on 19 attempts with 1 error. Kaci Johnson would put up a double-double with 33 assists and 22 total digs. Lily VanSeveren would have a team high 30 digs in the five set match, while Josie Bryan and Emma Meester would each add double digit kills with 12 and 11 respectively. 

Kirkwood returns to Johnson Hall this Tuesday for an important ICCAC matchup against Western Iowa Tech.
