Kirkwood went 3-1 in the four games and even though Trevor Burkhart didn't have many at-bats, he couldn't have played much better. The sophomore had a .667 average (4 for 6) and added four walks. Three of his four hits went for extra bases as he notched a double and two home runs. Those big hits led to lots of runs being scored, as Burkhart registered 7 RBI while only having six official at-bats. Just for good measure, he stole one base as well.

With the postseason getting underway it is important to have a balance between hitting and pitching. Luke Llewellyn provided that balance as the Kirkwood sophomore threw a no-hitter in an 8-0 victory over Iowa Lakes in Game 2 of the first-round best of three series of the Region XI Tournament. Llewellyn went all seven innings before the rune rule went into effect, and the only blemishes on perfection were two walks that led to no runs. The right-hander struck out nine on his way to the finish line.
