Former Eagle to make Harlem Globetrotters debut

ATLANTA, Ga. - As the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters look toward the 91st season of entertaining fans, six new players will be making their debuts for the team when the 2017 World Tour tips-off on Dec. 26, including former Kirkwood men's basketball player, Devan Douglas.

Devan "Beast" Douglas (pictured above, second from left), an explosive 6-foot-3 player, was a prolific dunker throughout his scholastic and collegiate career. Douglas broke out during his sophomore season at Kirkwood where he averaged 11 points per game and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field. After his time at Kirkwood, Douglas went on to play his final two seasons at NCAA Division II University of Mary where he was a standout player for the Marauders.

A highlight of Douglas' playing career was when he was crowned the 2016 College Slam Dunk Champion in Houston over Final Four weekend, a nationally-televised competition featuring players from all NCAA divisions. Douglas earned the attention of the Harlem Globetrotters and was then drafted by the Globetrotters in June. The Davenport, Ia., native played high school ball with current NFL star David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals.

Douglas and his five fellow rookies will join a star-studded roster featuring "Ant" Atkinson, "Big Easy" Lofton, "Cheese" Chisholm, "Thunder" Law, "Hi-Lite" Bruton, "Firefly" Fisher, "Ace" Jackson" and "TNT" Lister as the Globetrotters tip-off their 2017 World Tour on Dec. 26 and will play in over 250 North American markets, as well as 30 countries worldwide.
