Men's Basketball All-Region Teams Announced

ICCAC.org | AMES -- The 2016-2017 basketball saw two ICCAC men's basketball teams ranked No. 1 this year. Kirkwood started the season at the top spot after winning the national title last year and Southwestern ended the year with the No. 1 ranking. The Eagles finished the regular season in sole possession of second place and ended their season with a Region XI Tournament Finals loss to Southwestern.

The Eagles (25-7) were well-represented in the postseason All-region awards, as announced by the league office yesterday. Kirkwood had two players apiece named to each of the three team -- Miles Wentzien and Byron were named First Team performers, Chris King and Da'Rion King were selected to the Second Team, while Shakur Triplett and Ethan Meeker were named to the Honorable Mention team.

The region's eight Division II men's basketball coaches vote on 1st, 2nd, and Honorable Mention All-Region teams. Voting is based off statistics and performances during the regular season.

Wentzien led the team in scoring this year. A native of Fort Madison, Iowa, the sophomore averaged 14.8 points per game this year for the Eagles. Wentzien also pulled down a team-high 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Wentzien had just one double-double this year, but was only one rebound shy of earning a double-double on six other occasions.

Harp led the Eagles in assists this year, averaging just under four assists per game along with a strong 2.5 assists-to-turnover ratio. The sophomore from Ankeny, Iowa, also contributed 11.3 points per game including a season-high of 26 points versus DMACC on Feb. 18. Harp had 16 games this year scoring in double-digits.

Chris King was a solid performer for the Eagles all season. The redshirt freshman from Des Moines, Iowa, averaged 12.7 points per game and 3.4 assists.

Da'Rion King was a force inside for Kirkwood. The sophomore forward from Racine, Wis., averaged 11.1 points per game on the season while also pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game for the Eagles.
