Eagles Split Doubleheader, Hand #4 Jones First Loss of the Season

Ellisville, MS- The #10 Kirkwood Eagles Softball Team opened their Mississippi trip Monday afternoon at Community Bank Park at Gwen Magee Field with a hard-fought split against the #4 Jones College Bobcats. After dropping the opener, the Eagles bounced back in a big way, handing Jones its first loss of the season in a statement win in game two.

Game 1 – Jones College 7, Kirkwood 2

Kirkwood showed flashes offensively in the opener but couldn't slow down a decisive fifth inning by the Bobcats. The Eagles collected seven hits, and both of their runs came via the long ball, as Breckin De La Rosa and Reese Stockmaneach homered to account for all of Kirkwood's scoring. Shannon Finn and Mischa Reiners each finished with two hits, while Kirkwood also drew five walks to keep pressure on Jones throughout the game.

In the circle, Ada Wood worked 4.2 innings before Jessa DeMoss came on in relief. Jones pulled away with a five-run fifth inning, creating separation the Eagles couldn't quite overcome despite continued traffic on the bases late.

Game 2 – Kirkwood 4, Jones College 2

The nightcap told a very different story. Facing an undefeated Jones squad, Kirkwood delivered a composed, complete performance to secure a signature win. The Eagles broke through with a three-run fifth inning and added an insurance run later, making four hits count.

Breckin De La Rosa led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Mischa Reiners drove in a run and added a double. Alley Gorsh also chipped in an RBI, and Kinsley Theobald created havoc on the bases with two stolen bases.

In the circle, Libby Trewin was outstanding, tossing a complete game and allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out seven. Her poise and command kept the Bobcats in check and sealed a win for the Eagles.
