Eagles Battle Bengals, Close Weekend with 14-4 Win

Eunice, LA- The #10 Kirkwood Eagles Softball Team opened its spring season on the road in Eunice, Louisiana, facing a stiff early test against the #13 LSU Eunice Bengals in a four-game series. While the Eagles came up short in three tightly contested games to open the weekend, they finished the series on a high note—exploding offensively in the finale to earn a decisive win and build momentum moving forward.


Game 1

LSU Eunice 5, Kirkwood 3

Kirkwood opened the season in a defensive battle, matching LSU Eunice hit for hit throughout the game. Shannon Finndelivered a pair of RBIs, while Alley Gorsh added an RBI double. Mischa Reiners collected two hits from behind the plate, and Libby Trewin battled through six innings in the circle, limiting the Bengals to just three hits. Despite the strong effort, early runs by LSU Eunice proved to be the difference.


Game 2

LSU Eunice 8, Kirkwood 7

The Eagles were inches away from evening the series in a back-and-forth thriller. Kirkwood racked up 10 hits and showed speed and aggressiveness on the bases, highlighted by stolen bases from Macie FisherBreckin De La RosaTaylor Dieterich, and Sophie LinkAlley Gorsh drove in two runs, while Mischa Reiners and Taylor Dieterich also chipped in RBIs. LSU Eunice used a late surge to edge ahead, handing Kirkwood a narrow one-run loss.


Game 3

LSU Eunice 3, Kirkwood 1

In game three, runs were at a premium as pitching dominated. Libby Trewin once again anchored the Eagles in the circle, allowing just three runs over six innings. Alley Gorsh provided Kirkwood's lone RBI, while Shannon Finn reached base and swiped two bags. Despite limited offensive opportunities, the Eagles stayed competitive throughout, holding the Bengals scoreless after the third inning.


Game 4

Kirkwood 14, LSU Eunice 4

Kirkwood saved its biggest performance for last, erupting for 14 runs in a dominant series finale. Alley Gorsh delivered a monster game, going 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs to lead the offensive onslaught. Addison Ohda added a three-run homer, while Mischa Reiners drove in two and Sophie Link crossed the plate three times. In the circle, Carley Cavanagh was outstanding in relief, shutting down the Bengals over four scoreless innings to secure the Eagles' first win of the season in emphatic fashion.

Kirkwood has a short break before jumping back into action today, as the Eagles take on the #4 Jones College Softball Team in a doubleheader scheduled for 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
