#4 Eagles Open ICCAC Play with Sweep

The #4 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team wasted no time making their presence felt in ICCAC play, sweeping Northeast Iowa CC in dominant fashion Thursday afternoon. The Eagles run-ruled their conference opponent in both games, winning 14-6 and 13-2, with each contest ending after just five innings.

Game 1: Kirkwood 14, Northeast Iowa CC 6 (5 innings)

Kirkwood's offense came out firing and never let up, plating runs in four of the five innings en route to a 14-run explosion. The Eagles racked up 10 hits and drew nine walks, constantly applying pressure on the basepaths.

At the heart of the offensive surge was Mischa Reiners, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including a triple. Shannon Finn delivered a big swing with a three-run home run, finishing with three RBIs, while Alley Gorsh added a perfect 2-for-2 performance with a home run and three RBIs of her own.

Taylor Dieterich contributed at the top of the order with two hits and three stolen bases, and Savannah Caves showcased patience at the plate, scoring three runs and drawing two walks.

In the circle, Libby Trewin set the tone early, tossing three shutout innings while striking out three to earn the win.

Game 2: Kirkwood 13, Northeast Iowa CC 2 (5 innings)

The Eagles carried their momentum straight into game two, erupting for nine runs in the second inning to break the game wide open and cruise to another run-rule victory.

Shannon Finn stayed hot, going 1-for-1 with three RBIs and two walks, while Mischa Reiners continued her dominant day with a home run and three RBIs. Alley Gorsh added two RBIs, and Addison Ohda chipped in with a perfect 2-for-2 effort and an RBI.

Kinsley Theobald reached base three times and scored twice, while Savannah Caves added an RBI and two runs scored as the Eagles once again showcased their depth throughout the lineup.

In the circle, Taylor Dieterich earned the win with two scoreless innings to start the game. Jessa DeMoss and Carley Cavanagh combined to close things out, with Cavanagh striking out four over the final two innings.

Next Up

Kirkwood will face a tough ICCAC test this weekend. The Eagles host rival DMACC for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., followed by another doubleheader against Ellsworth on Sunday, also starting at 1 p.m.
