Kirkwood Eagles Dominate Ellsworth to Take Series Win
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – After splitting the weekend series, the Kirkwood Eagles and Ellsworth Panthers faced off in a decisive third game on Monday, with the matchup moved to Kirkwood due to weather conditions. The Eagles took full advantage of home turf, delivering an offensive explosion to secure the series victory.
Despite a chilly day, Kirkwood's bats stayed hot, racking up 17 hits compared to Ellsworth's 11. The Eagles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Panthers clawed their way back to tie the game at 4-4. That's when Jaxon Schumacher made his mark, blasting a grand slam to break the game open. Schumacher finished with a team-high six RBIs, while Cal Sullivan contributed three of his own. Both Sullivan and Landon Frost smacked two doubles each, fueling Kirkwood's relentless offensive attack.
On the mound, Jackson Niederwerder (4-1) earned the win, striking out three batters in his outing. The Eagles dominated the rest of the way, cruising to a commanding 16-5 victory.
Kirkwood is back in action today with a home game against Indian Hills at 2 PM.
