Kirkwood Baseball Sweeps Southwestern in Crucial Road Doubleheader
Creston, IA – The Kirkwood Eagles delivered a dominant performance Tuesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Southwestern Community College with wins of 15-3 and 11-9. The victories were vital for Kirkwood as they continue their push toward postseason positioning in the ICCAC standings.
In Game 1, the Eagles' offense exploded for 15 runs on 12 hits, scoring in every inning en route to a commanding win. Kirkwood's consistent pressure led to a six-run outburst in the seventh to break the game wide open. Reece Wrage earned the win, and the Eagles capitalized on three Southwestern errors and four home runs off their pitching staff.
Game 2 proved to be a closer contest, but Kirkwood's bats once again provided the edge. The Eagles jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first, added insurance in the middle innings, and sealed the game with a three-run ninth. The offense tallied 11 runs on 11 hits and drew 11 walks in a patient, disciplined performance. Despite Southwestern putting together a late push, the Eagles held on to secure the sweep.
Kirkwood will conclude its regular season this weekend in Fort Dodge, IA, playing Iowa Central. The first game starts at 1 PM on Friday May 2nd.
