CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — In a dramatic, high-scoring showdown, Kirkwood Community College edged out Southwestern Community College 10-9 in 11 innings, thanks to clutch performances, aggressive base running, and a relentless offense that refused to back down.
After trailing for much of the game, Kirkwood erupted in the 7th inning with six runs to seize the momentum. Lane Spieker was a standout, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a double, and two stolen bases. CJ Davis added a three-RBI performance, highlighted by a go-ahead triple that energized the home crowd. Leadoff hitter Blake Lundholm provided a steady presence at the top of the lineup, tallying three hits, including a double, and driving in two runs.
Matt Stoltenberg chipped in with a home run and two RBIs, while Kade Knock scored three times and stole two bases. Overall, the Eagles pounded out 13 hits and drew seven walks, keeping pressure on Southwestern pitchers throughout the game.
The Eagles' depth on the mound played a pivotal role, utilizing a staggering nine pitchers to navigate Southwestern's ten-hit, nine-run barrage. Adrian Broadus ultimately earned the win, shutting things down in the 11th. Alex Neal and Caden Wilson also provided key scoreless innings in relief.
Kirkwood will look to carry that momentum on the road Thursday against NIACC in Mason City, before heading into a three-game weekend series at Marshalltown.
