Kirkwood Baseball Takes Two of Three from #14 Iowa Central to Close Regular Season
FORT DODGE, Iowa – The Kirkwood Eagles closed out their regular season with a key road series victory over Iowa Central, taking two of three games behind timely hitting and strong pitching.
In Friday's series opener, Kirkwood rallied late to earn a 6-4 win. Jaxon Schumacher delivered the decisive blow with a three-run homer in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie. Cal Sullivan and Kade Knock also chipped in RBIs, while Andrew Carroll earned the win with 6.1 innings of three-run ball and 11 strikeouts. Grant Miller notched the save.
The second game of Friday's doubleheader saw Iowa Central even the series with an 8-3 win. Despite home runs from Sullivan and Ty Andrews, the Eagles were unable to overcome a four-run third inning from the Tritons. Boede Rahe took the loss, surrendering five runs across six innings despite fanning 10.
Kirkwood bounced back in dramatic fashion on Saturday, outlasting Iowa Central 11-10 in a back-and-forth slugfest. The Eagles jumped out with four runs in the first and never trailed, thanks to a balanced offensive attack. Cal Sullivan led the way with two doubles and three RBIs. Landon Frost hit a two-run homer, and Addison Binnie, Ty Andrews, and Adam Kayko also drove in runs. Beau Leisure picked up the win in relief, while Davis Webb closed out the ninth for the save.
With the series win, Kirkwood concludes the regular season with momentum heading into the postseason.
Up next for Kirkwood is the 2025 Division II Region 11 Baseball Tournament, where the Eagles are the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed Northeast on Thursday, May 8 at 3:30 PM.
