Kirkwood Splits Effort in Three-Game Series Against Iowa Western

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Kirkwood Community College hosted Iowa Western this weekend in a three-game baseball series, taking one game while dropping two in a competitive stretch that featured strong offense and moments of promise.

Game 1: Kirkwood Wins Opener 9–4

Kirkwood opened the series with an impressive 9–4 victory. The Eagles scored early, putting up seven runs in the first two innings. Cal Sullivan led the team with three hits, including a home run and two doubles, and drove in three runs. CJ Davis also homered, while Jaxon Schumacher and Blake Lundholm each contributed two RBIs.

Andrew Carroll pitched a complete game for the win, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out five over seven innings.

Game 2: Offense Struggles in 9–2 Loss

In the second game of the doubleheader, Kirkwood's offense was limited to just four hits in a 9–2 loss. The team struggled to get on base consistently, and Iowa Western took advantage of 11 walks allowed by Eagles pitching.

Matt Stoltenberg drove in the only earned run for Kirkwood in a quiet showing at the plate.

Game 3: Late Runs Sink Eagles in 15–9 Defeat

The series finale turned into a high-scoring affair, with Iowa Western pulling away late to win 15–9. Kirkwood totaled 14 hits, including a three-run home run by Landon Frost and two RBIs from CJ Davis. Cal Sullivan added three hits and two walks.

Kirkwood led 5–3 early and scored three more in the sixth to keep things close, but a six-run ninth inning by Iowa Western proved too much to overcome.

Up next is a home game against Southwestern on Tuesday at Lewis Field at 1 PM.
