Kirkwood Shines on Pink Day with Dominant Win Over Northeast
Cedar Rapids, IA- The #7 Kirkwood Eagles Women's Basketball team rose to the occasion on Saturday afternoon inside a packed Johnson Hall, defeating the Northeast Hawks 70-39 in a pivotal ICCAC matchup. It was Pink Day and Kirkwood's annual Crowd the Court game, and the energy in the building matched the moment as the Eagles protected their home floor and strengthened their hold on sole possession of first place in the conference.
With an earlier loss to the Hawks in Norfolk still fresh, Kirkwood made it clear from the opening tip that this would be a different story. The Eagles controlled the first half on both ends of the floor, holding Northeast to just 20 total points and taking a 36-20 lead into the locker room. Their defensive pressure set the tone, forcing 25 turnovers in the game and converting those mistakes into 26 points.
Kirkwood's balanced attack was on full display. Erianna Moeschter led the way with 12 points and six rebounds while also dishing out four assists. Olivia Wren added 12 points and four assists, knocking down two three-pointers and helping orchestrate the offense. Madison Stowater provided a spark off the bench with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including two threes.
Inside, the Eagles dominated the paint, outscoring Northeast 46-10 down low. Dasia Foster controlled the glass with nine rebounds to go along with seven points, while Moeschter and Bra'Ja Torry each grabbed six boards. Kirkwood also showcased its depth, receiving 34 bench points in the win.
After a competitive third quarter, the Eagles slammed the door in the fourth, outscoring the Hawks 20-1 to secure the statement victory.
Next Up: The Eagles will travel to Iowa Falls on Wednesday evening to take on the Ellsworth Panthers at 5:30 pm in another key conference showdown.
